Our seed orchards were established by grafting outstanding selections chosen for their superior growth, disease resistance, straightness and stem form characteristics.
Plum Creek does not use or produce genetically modified organisms (GMO). We use traditional breeding methods to regenerate our forests.
At Plum Creek, we use time-honored, traditional cultivation methods to produce seedlings with superior growth, disease resistance and tree form characteristics. Due to our innovative tree improvement techniques, our seed produces seedlings that grow straighter and faster, resist disease better and produce more wood volume. We work with regional tree improvement cooperatives, who help guide the development of our regional orchards through breeding and selection – resulting in superior seeds for the seedlings we grow.
Plum Creek’s southern nurseries grow bare-root and containerized southern pine, and bare-root hardwood species. Our softwood seedlings are grown from first- and second-generation seeds, as well as Advanced Cycle genetically improved seed. These seeds are produced from our carefully thinned and managed orchards, so that our seedlings have the highest available growth and disease resistance ratings.
