KEWEENAW LAND TRUST RECEIVES $2,000 PLUM CREEK FOUNDATION GRANT

L’ANSE, Mich.--December 4, 2009--The Plum Creek Foundation recently awarded a $2,000 grant to the Keweenaw Land Trust Inc. to fund site improvements on the Lightfoot Bay Coastal Wetlands Preserve and help restore a historic log cabin at the site.

The Keweenaw Land Trust recently established the Lightfoot Bay Coastal Wetlands Preserve to protect the area, promote environmental awareness of its rare habitats and provide recreational and educational opportunities to the public. According to Patricia Toczydlowski, project specialist for the Keweenaw Land Trust, historical structures on the preserve, such as the 1920s log cabin that is being restored, add value to the site, and it is important to keep them maintained to ensure safe use by the public.

“The response from those who have visited the preserve is extremely positive,” said Toczydlowski. “We are grateful to the Plum Creek Foundation for helping us pursue our goals of caring for this preserve and improving the site to further benefit the public.”

The Keweenaw Land Trust supports special projects, such as the Lightfoot Bay Coastal Wetlands, that contribute to protecting land, water and quality of life while also promoting environmental stewardship. Visit www.KeweenawLandTrust.org to learn more.
