HAWKINS FIRE DEPARTMENT RECEIVES PLUM CREEK FOUNDATION GRANT FOR SAFETY UPGRADES
HAYWARD, Wis.--September 16, 2009--The Plum Creek Foundation recently awarded $750 to the Hawkins Fire Department to help fund upgrades to the light bars on its fire trucks.
“We are grateful to the Plum Creek Foundation for this donation,” said Douglas van Doorn, secretary of the fire department. “Functioning emergency vehicles are an important part of public safety, and this grant will help us in our efforts to provide the best service possible to the local community.”
The Hawkins Fire Department provides primary fire protection and search and rescue services to residents of Hawkins and the surrounding areas. The fire department owns six fire trucks, five of which have old siren lights that sometimes do not work and are not very bright. Additionally, the aging light bars draw a lot of power to run, which overworks the electrical system on the trucks. According to van Doorn, the new light bars will help solve these problems while more effectively notifying people when the trucks are approaching.
The mission of the Plum Creek Foundation is to provide philanthropic contributions to support and improve the general welfare of life in the communities that Plum Creek serves. The Foundation board meets quarterly to review applications submitted from organizations in the company’s operating communities.
