PITTSVILLE SCHOOL DISTRICT RECEIVES $2,000 PLUM CREEK FOUNDATION GRANT FOR BUS RADIOS
WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis..--September 4, 2009--The Plum Creek Foundation recently awarded $2,000 to the Pittsville School District to help fund the purchase of two-way radios for each of the District’s 16 busses, both schools and the bus office.
The Pittsville School District covers nearly 500 square miles, and the majority of students are bussed to and from school. The current bus communication system consists of a limited number of personal cell phones, however, cell coverage in the area is unreliable. The donation will enable the schools and busses to stay in contact with each other in case of emergencies, lost children, mechanical problems and more.
“We are grateful to the Plum Creek Foundation for helping us keep our most valuable cargo – children – safe,” said Jerry Minor, town fire chief. “Our community depends on the school district to meet the needs of our children and safety during transportation is one of those needs.”
The Pittsville School District enrolls more than 650 children from central Wood County. The mission of the district is to enable each student through his/her own efforts and the efforts of parents, educational staff and the community to be a lifelong learner, capable of adapting to change while making a positive contribution in the global community.
The mission of the Plum Creek Foundation is to provide philanthropic contributions to support and improve the general welfare of life in the communities that Plum Creek serves. The Foundation board meets quarterly to review applications submitted from organizations in the company’s operating communities. Visit the Community Involvement page on Plum Creek’s Web site at www.plumcreek.com to download an application.
