WESTERN UPPER PENINSULA HEALTHCARE ACCESS COALITION RECEIVES $2,000 PLUM CREEK FOUNDATION GRANT FOR GENERIC MEDICATION PROGRAM

L’ANSE, Mich.--July 27, 2009--The Plum Creek Foundation recently awarded a $2,000 grant to the Western Upper Peninsula Healthcare Access Coalition (WUPHAC) to help fund the purchase of prescription drugs for its Generic Medication Program.

“We are so thankful for the support the Plum Creek Foundation has given us,” said Carolyn Williams, pharmacy coordinator for WUPHAC.  “For many of our clients, especially those with chronic illnesses, our program provides access to medical care and medications while still allowing them to take care of other living necessities.”

The Generic Medication Program assists more than 350 low-income, uninsured people each year in accessing generic medication for minimal co-payment.  The purchase price of the medication, less the co-payment, is funded by WUPHAC.

WUPHAC is a non-profit organization established in response to the growing need for access to affordable and quality healthcare by the uninsured.  The organization provides services to residents in Baraga, Gogebic, Houghton, Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties.

The mission of the Plum Creek Foundation is to provide philanthropic contributions to support and improve the general welfare of life in the communities that Plum Creek serves.  The Foundation board meets quarterly to review applications submitted from organizations in the company’s operating communities.  Visit the Community Involvement page on Plum Creek’s Web site at www.plumcreek.com to download an application.
