BRUCE KIWANIS CLUB RECEIVES $3,000 PLUM CREEK FOUNDATION GRANT FOR BLEACHER PROJECT

HAYWARD, Wis.The Plum Creek Foundation recently awarded a $3,000 grant to the Bruce Kiwanis Club to help fund the construction of new bleachers at the Bruce Village Park baseball field.

The original Bruce Village Park baseball field bleachers, built in 1954, were demolished in September 2008 because they had become a safety hazard for spectators.  The proposed new structure will consist of aluminum bench seating with plastic overlays for the seating and plastic back rests for 250-300 people.  Masonry students from Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College are working with local contractors to build the bleachers.  Bruce Village Park baseball field draws approximately 15,000 people annually.

“Bruce Village Park has one of the most popular baseball fields in the area, and we are grateful to Plum Creek for helping fund the improvements,” said Jeff Sheffield, president of the Bruce Kiwanis Club.  “This gift from the Plum Creek Foundation will help make sure spectators are kept safe while they enjoy their time at the park.”

The Bruce Kiwanis Club is part of the international Kiwanis volunteer organization, which works with children and communities to develop future generations of leaders.  Kiwanis work to revitalize neighborhoods, organize youth-sports programs, tutor students, build playgrounds and perform countless other projects to help children and communities.
