PHILLIPS SCHOOL DISTRICT SCHOOL FOREST DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE RECEIVES $9,000 PLUM CREEK FOUNDATION GRANT FOR ACCESS ROAD
TOMAHAWK, Wis.--Jan. 30, 2009--The Plum Creek Foundation recently awarded a $9,000 grant to the Phillips School District School Forest Development Committee to help fund the Friends of the Forest Easement Road Development Project.
The project will help fund the development of a new access road into the Worcester School Forest. The new road will provide the Phillips School District with unrestricted access to the forest for educational forestry, cross-country meets, field trips and more. Successful completion of the project will also provide forest access to the Flambeau Ski Club, local snowmobile clubs and other Phillips community members.
“We are very appreciative of the generous donation from the Plum Creek Foundation,” said David Scholz, school forest coordinator. “With this grant, we can continue providing students and the entire community with forestland access to learn, compete, stay healthy and have fun right in their own neighborhood.”
The Phillips School District School Forest Development Committee is dedicated to providing the youth of the Phillips School District with educational opportunities that nurture personal growth of environmental knowledge and appreciation for nature, as well as developing devoted citizens who will work individually and together to maintain a love and stewardship for our natural resources. Approximately 920 students are enrolled in the Phillips School District.
