UPPER PENINSULA CHILDREN’S MUSEUM RECEIVES $3,000 PLUM CREEK FOUNDATION GRANT

ESCANABA, Mich.--Oct. 21, 2008--The Plum Creek Foundation recently awarded $3,000 to the Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum to help fund the “Second Thursday, Together Time CREATION” series.

The “Second Thursday, Together Time CREATION” series is a monthly hands-on learning event for toddler- and elementary-aged children and their adult caregivers.  The program uses creative teaching methods to expose children to a variety of subject matter, including arts methods, science concepts and food creation.  October’s “Second Thursday,” held on Oct. 9, was a Halloween celebration.  Children, as well as some brave adults, previewed their costumes, participated in spooky activities throughout the museum and enjoyed pizza for dinner.  The Plum Creek Foundation grant will help expand the museum’s current “Second Thursday” programming.

“We are grateful to Plum Creek Foundation for the wonderful donation,” said Nheena Weyer Ittner, director of the UP Children’s Museum.  “This grant will foster opportunities for parents and children who are separated by school and work to spend meaningful time together.”

The Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum, located in Marquette, Mich., provides children and families of the Upper Peninsula with a hands-on, exploratory learning environment designed for fun.  The museum offers a variety of programs and exhibits throughout the year.

The mission of the Plum Creek Foundation is to provide philanthropic contributions to support and improve the general welfare of life in the communities that Plum Creek serves.  The Foundation board meets quarterly to review applications submitted from organizations in the company’s operating communities.  Visit the Community Involvement page on Plum Creek’s Web site at www.plumcreek.com to download an application.
