Plum Creek - Growing Value from Exceptional Resources

Timber Management

Plum Creek manages its forests for a sustainable harvest, today and into the future. Our presence in multiple markets gives us the opportunity to focus current activities on regions with the best pricing dynamics. Our dedicated team of scientists work closely with our local foresters to determine the optimal time to harvest each tree. Rather than selling at unattractive values, we have the flexibility to defer the harvest, allowing the trees to grow in size and value.

Plum Creek foresters focus their efforts on making sure that each log harvested is efficiently merchandised, sorted and sold to the customer who values it the most. This means getting the right log to the right market at the right time.

Sustainable Forestry InitiativeAt Plum Creek, we practice sustainable forestry on all of our timberlands -- approximately 8 million acres in 18 states. In 2004, PricewaterhouseCoopers completed independent audits on all of our timberland holdings and certified that the timberlands are managed to the standards of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® program. This certification confirms our longstanding commitment to practicing sustainable forestry, which incorporates the perpetual growing and harvesting of trees with the protection of wildlife, plants, soil and water quality. It also confirms the diligence of our foresters who work every day to meet this commitment.
