Plum Creek Florida
Plum Creek began doing business in Florida in 2001 when we merged with The Timber Group. In 2005, the company expanded its commitment to Florida with the purchase of 56,000 acres of land in Northwest Florida from Soterra Co.
Practicing sustainable forestry practice on more than 598,000 acres in 22 counties, Plum Creek is the second largest private landowner in the State of Florida and the largest private landowner in the United States.
The company is committed to sustainable forestry and works in partnership with local and state governments to ensure we meet or exceed all forestry rules, regulations and environmental laws. All of our timberlands in Florida, primarily softwood pines, were certified to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI)® in 2004. Timber operations employ 28 company personnel and 36 small business contractors, and we serve 53 mills and other facilities.
Plum Creek's operations in Florida are centered in four principal areas: the St. Johns Forest, Gulf Hammock Forest, Lake Butler Forest, and the Wire Grass Forest in Northwest Florida. About 90 percent of the company's lands in Florida are in silviculture (forestry).
Plum Creek's customers manufacture wood board, mulch and pressboard.
