Plum Creek - Growing Value from Exceptional Resources

Sustainable Forestry (SFI)

Sustainable Forestry InitiativeSustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI) principles and objectives guide our approach to forest management and to the procurement of wood for our manufacturing operations. The SFI was developed in 1994 and has been updated regularly to keep pace with forest science, technology and environmental understanding.

The SFI principles are based on the goal of meeting the public's need for wood and paper products using environmentally responsible forest management that will ensure the health and sustainability of forests far into the future.

Eleven major SFI objectives translate the principles into action and help to establish specific measures for monitoring, evaluating and reporting performance.

Plum Creek voluntarily hosts rigorous forest audits, performed by independent, third-party professionals, to certify that our management practices meet SFI standards. All Plum Creek forestlands have been audited and certified as compliant with SFI standards. Plum Creek's property in Montana, Idaho (803 Kb PDF) and Maine (631 Kb PDF) were audited in 2002 by Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) and were found to be in continuous compliance with enhancements to the SFI standards adopted by the Sustainable Forestry Board during 2001. PwC completed SFI audits (150 Kb PDF) on the balance of our lands in 2004 and issued their report stating the Company met the SFI standards.

Continued auditing helps the company assure customers and the public that we continue to meet SFI objectives as they evolve.
