2006

Georgia Forestry for Wildlife Program Partner

Plum Creek was recognized for the third year by Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue and the Georgia State Department of Natural Resources as a Forestry for Wildlife Program (FWP) Partner. 2005

Georgia Forestry for Wildlife Program Partner

Plum Creek was recognized by Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue and the Georgia State Department of Natural Resources as a 2005 (and 2004) Forestry for Wildlife Program (FWP) Partner for the company's outstanding contributions to the state's wildlife and wild places. FWP is a voluntary annual program designed to promote the integration of wildlife conservation into corporate forest management practices. Some of the approaches deployed by Plum Creek to become a FWP Partner include, among others: preparing wildlife conservation plans; providing employee training opportunities on how to blend forestland management with wildlife friendly practices; providing research opportunities on forestlands and data for state research projects; and managing riparian forests for wildlife use and water quality protection.

2003

Business Conservation Leadership Award

The National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) is the national voice of America's 3,000 local conservation districts. By working with landowners, organizations and government, districts have helped to protect our soil, water, forests, wildlife and other resources for over 60 years. The organization honored Plum Creek with its 2003 Business Conservation Leadership Award. Charles Holmes, chairman of NACD's Forest Resources Committee, presented the award. He recognized Plum Creek as a national leader in the SFI and for our strong working relationship with the conservation districts in counties where we own land. Plum Creek representatives serve on the organization's Forest Resources Committee and district boards.

Wildlife Stewardship Award

Plum Creek received the 2003 Wildlife Stewardship Award from the American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) in the Outstanding Group category. The Company was recognized for our role in developing the Swan Valley Grizzly Bear Conservation Agreement in Montana. This agreement is a cooperative landscape management plan that provides habitat and reduces human disturbance to grizzly bears on 368,000 acres of intermingled state, federal and Plum Creek ownership between the Bob Marshall and Mission Mountain Wilderness Areas. This was the fifth time that Plum Creek has received the Wildlife Stewardship Award in the award's 10-year history. Other Company programs that have received this award include the Central Cascades Habitat Conservation Plan in Washington, and the Red-Cockaded Woodpecker Conservation Plan in Arkansas and Louisiana.

Montana Loon Society Partners Award

The Company earned this honor for outstanding contributions to Montana loon management efforts. We have been involved in multiple efforts to conserve the Common Loon in Montana, including participating in the State's cooperative working group, financial support for the hiring of summer interns, alerting foresters to sensitive nesting areas, monitoring lakes, collecting cedar logs for nesting platform construction, and assisting with banding research projects. With the continued cooperative efforts among state, federal, and private organizations and individuals, the Company will gain a better understanding of loons in Montana.

Partners in Flight Swallow-Tailed Kite Award

Partners in Flight honored Plum Creek and Steve Lowrimore, resource harvesting forester, with this award for contributions to bird conservation. The Swallow-tailed Kite is a migratory bird which breeds in the southeastern United States and winters in South America. Steve worked with Dr. Ken Meyers of the Avian Research and Conservation Institute and others to better understand and document the range, distribution and nesting habits of this bird. Partners in Flight is a cooperative effort involving partnerships among federal, state and local government agencies, philanthropic foundations, professional organizations, conservation groups, the academic community and private individuals. The organization promotes bird conservation throughout North and South America through the combined efforts of these private citizens and government agencies.

Best Technical Publication Honor

The Forest Resources Association honored Plum Creek's Bob Radspinner, senior resource forester, for authoring the Association's best technical publication. Known as Spill Kits Can Prevent Costly Cleanups, the document describes the use of spill kits to stop leaks and clean up minor spills of fuel and fluids typically used in harvesting operations.
